Description of DJI Matrice 300 RTK Audris completed a report on drones back in polytechnic.  I read through the report on drones to gain basic knowledge about drones.  Audris and I employed chatGPT to acquire and shortlist information on drones used specifically on drones. The prompts used are as follows "What are the uses of drones in civil engineering" & "What are some specific brands and models of drones used in civil engineering".  Decided on DJI Matrice 300 to be our topic. Visited the selected company's website and obtained product specifications encompassing detailed features and functions.

Descriptive Reflection - Formal Introductory Letter

Subject: Self-introduction letter  Dear Professor Blackstone,  I am writing to introduce myself to you formally. I am Shirlyn Ong, a year one civil engineering student at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), currently enrolled in your critical thinking and communicating module. I graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a civil engineering diploma in 2023. My interest in the civil engineering field sparked ever since I was young. My father, a civil engineer, often introduced and explained many of his structural drawings to me. Ever since then, I constantly questioned how skyscrapers and bridges were built. Thus, it motivated me to pursue my studies further in this course.  I would consider my communication strength to be empathic. I would often put myself in others’ shoes and understand their perspective before giving a reply; this includes being aware and acknowledging the other person’s emotions and feelings. However, one communication weakness I have would be presenting i

Week 1 : The importance of communication skills for engineers

“Communication skills are an essential component in the education of engineering students to facilitate not just students’ education but also to prepare them for their future careers.” Marc Riemer, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University (2007)   The significance of communication skills in the education of engineering students is emphasized in this paragraph. Communication skills are not only necessary for the student's academic journey but also play a crucial role in shaping their future careers. The implication is that proficiency in communication is a fundamental requirement for success as an engineer. Engineers must skillfully convey technical information, collaborate with colleagues, and articulate ideas effectively.
